Expression profiling tools in GLIP

Recent efforts in the GRAIN LEGUMES Integrated Project (GLIP) allowed to set up comprehensive 70mer oligonucleotide microarray expression profiling tools both in the model legume Medicago truncatula and in the grain legume crop Pisum sativum that allow to take up the challenge of specifying the network of genes orchestrating processes relevant for legume biology, most importantly seed formation: Mt16kOLI1Plus and Ps6kOLI1.

What's on the chips?
The Mt16kOLI1Plus arrays comprise 16.470 probes representing all tentative consensus sequences (TCs) of the TIGR M. truncatula Gene Index 5 plus 384 probes for transcription factors and other regulators.

The Ps6kOLI1 arrays are based on 5.177 probes targeted against EST clusters primarily derived from cotyledon and seed coat ESTs. In detail the EST-clusters forming the basis of Ps6kOLI1 were built from 8.412 ESTs from cotyledons and seed coats, 2.816 ESTs from stipules, epicotyls, leaves, stems and seeds; and 702 ESTs from lateral and apical shoot tips before and during flowering. In addition, 26 marker genes for P. sativum seed, stem and flower development were added.

Both the Mt16kOLI1Plus and the Ps6kOLI1 microarrays contains common sets of controls allowing to assess the processivity of labeling, the level of non-specific background hybridizations and the expression of common transgenes.

How much does it cost?

Mt16kOLI1Plus and Ps6kOLI1 microarrays can be supplied to interested users at cost-covering non-profit prices. Current prices for these tools are €160 and €75, respectively.
